The Parts of A Sentence

Subject:
·         simple subject
·         compound subject
·         subject  complement
Predicate/ verb:
·         simple predicate
·         compound predicate
Object:
·         direct object
·         indirect object
·         object complement

SUBJECT IS DIVIDED INTO:
·         Simple subject
·         Compound subject
·         Subject complement

1.      Example Of simple subject:
         George walks.
          Janes studies.
          Her baby cries.
          Dony runs.
          My grand mother sits.


2.      Example of Compound subject:
         One of the students  wins the robot contest in UI.
         The girl  wearing beautiful shoes dances beautifully.
         Her money sent by her mother is used to pay boarding  house.
         The man living in my next house was a film star.
3.      Examples of subject complement:
         Ann looks pale.
         Johan always comes late.
         Nindya feels upset.
         My angora cat runs fast.
         The food on the table smells delicious.
         Rose was cute.
         Agnes dances beautifully.

PREDICATE/VERB IS DIVIDED INTO:
         simple predicate
         compound predicate
1.      Example of simple predicate:
         My sister buys a new clothe.
         Alice reads a magazine.
         Sean writes notes.
         Rommy sleeps on the chair. 
         Sandra walked slowly in the park.



2.      Examples of Compound predicate:
         Gerry will go to Australia next month.
         Dorothy has been sent a bundle of flowers from her friend.
         Claudia has gathered her assignment on  time.
         Andrian had answered the middle test perfectly.
OBJECT IS DIVIDED INTO:
         Direct object
         Indirect object
         Object complement ---object ( not of thing) which modifies direct object.
1.      Examples of Direct Object:
         Father buys me a new notebook.
         She gives her friend a new agenda book.
         The teacher writes an announcement on the white board.
         Silvia cooks meals in the kitchen.
         His father always buys a bird every month.
2.      Examples of Indirect Object:
         Andrew sends me a letter.
         Intan is reading a fable for her sister.
         My father buys Vaundra a philosophical book every week.
         Vendy tells me his first rank.
         He types me Reading I problems.
 
Object Complement
OC is not a noun but a word or phrase that modifies the object
3.      Examples of Object Complement
         I saw the student sleeping.
         She dances srimpi dance beautifully.
         My brother saw Deally tired.
         Agnes watches a feast dress in detailed.
         She explains the material clearly.

Unusual Sentence
Imperative sentence (kal. Perintah) ---the subject (you) is omitted.

Kinds of Verbs:
- transitive ---followed by object /and object complement
- intransitive ---not followed by object
- linking verbs
   * are the verb to be, 
   * with subject complement
Transitive:
1. She loves her brother very much.
2. He brings a new computer dictionary.
3. Vendy delivers his speech fluently.
4. I ask my son to buy medicine in the drugstore.
5. Rommel prepares his examination until late at night.
Intransitive:
1. He runs quickly in the street.
2. Her baby grows fast.
3. The truck suddenly appears in front of the express train.
4. He is always jogging in the park every morning.
5. Last week he went to Toronto with his friend.


Linking Verb:
1. She becomes the best student in this class.
2. She remains the best student in my class .
3. Dannile’s job is a programmer.
4. They are  my best students
5. Dr. Wibisono is one of the best internists in Surabaya.
6. She looks pale.
7. The students are tired after join rowing competition.
